Same boat here. I couldn’t find any brand-specific RCTs on Irwin’s blends for insulin sensitivity, lipids, or BP. Two quick flags from the ingredient level that might matter for metabolic syndrome folks:
- CLA: mixed data; the t10,c12 isomer has repeatedly worsened insulin sensitivity and sometimes LDL in trials, which could counter any small benefits from catechins.
- Green tea catechins + caffeine: modest LDL and BP improvements have been seen with decaf catechins, but caffeine can bump BP/HR; piperine (often included) can raise catechin/caffeine and drug levels via CYP3A4/P‑gp.
On safety, green tea extract concentrates have DILIN/LiverTox case reports of hepatotoxicity (risk higher fasting or at high EGCG). Stimulant-type add‑ins (if present: synephrine, yohimbe) show up in CAERS and poison control data with tachycardia/hypertension, especially in people with comorbidities.
If anyone has labs before/after (fasting glucose/insulin or HOMA‑IR, TG/LDL/HDL, ambulatory BP) on any Irwin fat burner, would you share? Also curious if pharmacists here have seen interaction issues via piperine or caffeine with antihypertensives, statins, or SSRIs. For digging, CAERS, LiverTox, and the DILIN papers were the most useful.
